Research Compliance

To ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, as well as ethical standards with regard to all aspects pertaining to the responsible conduct of research, CUNY SPS adheres to the Responsible Conduct of Research policies and procedures instituted by CUNY’s Office of Research.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) is the practice of scientific investigation with integrity. It involves the awareness and application of established professional norms and ethical principles in the performance of all activities related to scientific research. Specifically, it encompasses the following shared values: [1]

• Honesty – convey information truthfully and honoring commitments

• Accuracy – report findings precisely and take care to avoid errors

• Efficiency – use resources wisely and avoid waste

• Objectivity – let the facts speak for themselves and avoid improper bias

Critical to maintaining compliance is Education. To this end, all staff, faculty and students involved in research are required to complete one or more training programs.

CUNY SPS Research Integrity Office (RIO)

Each CUNY College has a designated Research Integrity Officer (RIO) who is responsible for promoting the responsible conduct of research through training and education, and for implementing CUNY’s Research Misconduct policy.
